Setite
Setites
The Setites, or the Followers of Set, are a clan of vampires who follow their own gnostic faith derived from worship of the Egyptian God and vampire Set. The Clan of Faith worship and follow the teachings of the God and Antediluvian Set, who discovered the truth of the world after taking in the blood of the Serpent of Chaos, Apep, in the underworld. He discovered that the human soul was boundless, but the world was actually a prison and the Gods were its slavers. The chains that bind humanity are created by the Gods through social conditioning. Religion, culture, and custom are all forms of indoctrination that chain humanity. The Setites therefore are liberators, or called Corruptors by others. They challenge the morals and beliefs of people and organizations and attempt to twist them. They are masters of black-mail, corruption, seduction, and subterfuge. They are the serpent in the garden of Eden, though many Setites tend to loath the connotation. Setites loath devils as much as they loath angels; they seek only free will, and any divinity, good or evil, is but another jailor.
Disciplines: Presence, Obfuscate, Serpentis.
Flaw: Due to the hate of Amun-Ra, God of the Sun, the Setites take increased damage from sunlight and are sensitive to very bright lights. In-game, this is simulated by taking increased fire damage.
Recent History
The Church of Set renews efforts to make inroads within the Camarilla and the Free States as the new millennia dawns. The Eternals broker deals for their temples in Camarilla domains, facilitating the mentorship of their Paths, and for their particular rituals. As it stands, the Church of Set and the Camarilla are neutral, with the former expected to police themselves. Ever since the Conclave of Prague, this relationship has decayed some. This is due to the introduction of the Banu Haqim into Camarilla elder leadership, along reconciliation with the Assamites own rituals.
This turn of events has taken a lot of the argument from the sect of Hierophants that had believed the Camarilla are the most fit tool to destroy the Aeons with. The other varying offshoots of the Setite faith remain loose, and divided. The Serpents of Light have found new purchase as spiritual leaders with the exodus of the Lasombra. More theologically angled arguments bicker between if it ought to be, but none argue the ranks this 'Antitribu' of the Church appears to bring. Rumors of the Daitya persist, they must exist - somewhere entrenched in their ancient temples.
Whispers of the Cohort of Wepwawet are hard to dismiss, one way or another. More dangerous still, the Theophidians are beginining to fray. The wheel of time has begun to turn against the fervor, and the lack of Set's return devolves into a chaotic disenchantment and outright rejection. Calls for Contending are becoming much more common, clamping down on any further flow out of their grasps. Outside of these dogmatic masters, attempts at a grand united front of Set's faithful begin to manifest.
San Francisco 2015
The Church of San Francisco is independent. The local temple is itself a wellspring of heterodox ideas, a trend which is not uncommon among the youth of dogmatic kindred sects.
Perspective from Within:
Camarilla: "They have deluded themselves into thinking they have cornered us."
California Free State: "The Free State does not seem to be hindering open priests."
Sabbat: "They seek an impossible goal - stopping the return of Set."
Leers from Without:
Camarilla: "The persistence of these 'Hierophants' and their demands for rights with our domains is compelling. They have right to practically any of their vile rites, and their Corruptors Path..."
California Free State: "Not the worst religious outfit, and some of that babble might even be true."
Sabbat: "Nothing wrong with the Caribbeans or the Cobras, they know even their Set has got to fall. "
